Die Feinheiten, welche Karte in welcher Situation die richtige Wahl ist, werden hingegen selbst für Profis in manchen Fällen noch zur Kopfnuss. Mit der Frage, welche Karten du im Draft auswählen solltest, beschäftigen sich ganze Webseiten und Podcasts.

Standard ist eines der meistgespielten Constructed-Formate. Ein Standard-Deck enthält 60 Karten, allerdings darf jede Karte maximal vier mal gespielt werden.

Ausnahme sind natürlich Standardländer. Der Vorteil für Einsteiger ist, dass im Standard-Format nur Karten der aktuellen Sets erlaubt sind und du daher keine alten und potentiell sehr teuren Karten auftreiben musst, um ein gutes Deck zu bauen.

Obwohl Standard im Vergleich zu anderen Constructed-Formaten wie Modern oder Legacy noch das günstigste ist, ist ein Konkurrenz-fähiges Standard-Deck dennoch alles andere als preiswert.

Preise von bis zu Euro und mehr für ein kompetitives Deck sind auch heute keine Ausnahme. Seit April gehört dieses Problem der Vergangenheit an, da durch die neuen Challenger Decks endlich eine preiswerte Alternative geschaffen wurde.

Für 30 Euro erhältst du eines von vier vorkonstruierten Decks, die auf bewährten Archetypen der vergangenen Monate basieren. Beim Friday Night Magic solltest du mit einem dieser Decks also definitiv eine Chance haben, für ambitioniertere Spieler bieten die Decks aber dennoch Potential für zusätzliche Upgrades.

Bevor du dir ein Challenger Deck kaufst achte darauf, wann es erschienen ist. Challenger Decks erscheinen in der Regel im Frühling, enthalten aber stets auch Karten, die im darauffolgenden Herbst das Standard-Format verlassen.

Der perfekte Zeitpunkt für den Kauf eines Challenger Decks ist also unmittelbar nach der Veröffentlichung.

Willst du stattdessen ein eigenes Deck konstruieren, ist es sinnvoll, einen Blick auf das aktuelle Metagame zu werfen.

Natürlich steht es dir frei, dir eines der aktuellen Top-Decks selbst nachzubauen. Das Problem daran ist, dass du als Einsteiger nur wenige der notwendigen Karten besitzen wirst und der Kauf der nötigen Kopien schnell teuer wird.

Willst du hingegen ein Deck aus Karten deiner eigenen Sammlung bauen, ist ein Blick auf das aktuelle Metagame dennoch extrem hilfreich, damit du weist, welche Art von Decks dich beim nächsten Turnier erwarten.

Falls aktuell also beispielsweise aggressive Decks besonders beliebt sind, solltest du dir überlegen, welche Karten du in deinem Deck verbauen willst, um auf derartige Strategien vorbereitet zu sein.

Kein Deck in Magic: The Gathering ist automatisch gut oder schlecht. Erst im Kontext der anderen Decks, die im selben Format gespielt werden, kann ein Deck seinen Wert beweisen.

Egal ob du gerade erst mit Magic begonnen hast oder schon ein paar Turniererfahrungen sammeln konntest, gibt es einige Tipps, die für alle Spieler relevant und hilfreich sind.

Je mehr du mit deinen Karten spielst, desto mehr werden sich diese auch abnutzen. Ecken können knicken, Karten können sich biegen und deine Sammlung somit potentiell im Wert sinken.

Es ist daher empfehlenswert, dass du deine Karten in dafür vorgesehen Hüllen steckst. Diese erhältst du in jedem Spieleladen für wenige Euro.

Nehmen wir an, man greift mit zwei Karten an, die beide einen Angriff von vier haben. In diesem Fall würde man mit der Stärke acht angreifen und der Gegner hat dann die Möglichkeit, diesen Angriff zu blocken.

Hierfür braucht er ebenfalls Krieger bzw. Angreifer, wo dann allerdings der Verteidigungswert zum Tragen kommt. Schafft er es, mit genug Karten einen Verteidigungswert herzustellen, der höher ist als der Angriffswert vom Gegner, kommt der Angriff nicht durch.

Kommt allerdings doch etwas durch, so wird vom eigenen Leben genau so viel abgezogen, wie die übrigbleibenden Angriffspunkte besagen, die der Gegner schafft, abzublocken.

Nach dem Angriff werden die Karten für den nächsten eigenen Spielzug quer gedreht, was sie damit inaktiv macht für einen Spielzug.

Dies ist grundsätzlich ein kritisches Unterfangen, da man so auch nicht die Möglichkeit hat, Angriffe des Gegners abzublocken.

Damit werden sie gedreht und sind für die nächste Spielrunde inaktiv. Ziel des Spiels ist es also, den Gegner nach und nach erfolgreich anzugreifen, bis der Gegenspieler keine Lebensenergie mehr hat.

Bei dem Fantasy-Kartenspiel Magic: The Gathering, welches von den beiden Spieleentwicklern Richard Garfield und Mike Elliot im Jahre ins Leben gerufen wurde, handelt es sich um ein äußerst bekanntes und beliebtes Sammelkartenspiel. Allgemeine Regeln (Regelbuch) Magic ist ein komplexes Spiel, das es Neulingen nicht gerade leicht macht. Durch die vielen Kombinationsmöglichkeiten der mittlerweile verfügbaren Magic-Karten entstehen mitunter knifflige Situationen, aber auch im Spiel mit relativ "einfachen" Karten kann es darauf ankommen, die Regeln oder den Ablauf einer bestimmten Spielmechanik ganz genau zu kennen.
